Maddock’s horror-comedy was scheduled for Christmas, but moving to January could give the Aneet Padda starrer a much better theatrical run because of December crowed with Big Movies.
Aneet Padda’s Shakti Shalini has the potential to become the most interesting female-led films in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, but when it comes to the box office, timing could be just as important as the content. With the film reportedly looking at a January 2027 release instead of its previously announced Christmas slot, the move could actually work strongly in its favour.
The film was officially announced for December 24, 2026, with Saiyaara star Aneet Padda taking the lead. The announcement came through a special video attached to Thamma, introducing Padda as the new face of Maddock’s expanding horror-comedy universe.
However, the December calendar has become increasingly crowded. Shah Rukh Khan’s King is positioned as a major Christmas season release and reports subsequently suggested that Shakti Shalini could vacate December 24 and move into January 2027 to avoid a direct clash.
A Christmas release sounds attractive on paper because of the holiday period, but it also comes with one major problem: competition. When multiple big films arrive around the same time, screens, showtimes, audience attention and premium properties are divided.

For a film like Shakti Shalini, which is trying to establish Aneet Padda as a new leading face while expanding the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, getting sufficient screens and allowing the film to grow through word of mouth could be more valuable than simply opening during the Christmas weekend.
The second week of January, in particular, could be an interesting window. The period around Makar Sankranti/Pongal brings additional holiday momentum in several parts of India, while the film would still be relatively fresh before the next major releases begin taking over.
Aneet Padda’s Biggest Test After Saiyaara, There is another major factor working in the film’s favour: Aneet Padda.
After the success and widespread recognition of Saiyaara, expectations from the actress have changed dramatically. Shakti Shalini now arrives as her next major theatrical opportunity and, more importantly, as a female-led franchise film.
Maddock has already demonstrated that its horror universe can turn unusual concepts and relatively fresh faces into theatrical attractions. Stree, Bhediya, Munjya and the other films have helped create a recognizable audience base around the universe.
As KBP REVIEW Reports, The makers are developing the film as an important chapter within the larger Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, while director Aditya Sarpotdar has spoken about maintaining a larger long-term vision for the universe without sacrificing the identity of individual films.
That could be crucial for Shakti Shalini. Audiences should be able to enjoy the film as a standalone horror-comedy while still feeling that it belongs to a much bigger cinematic world.
The role was earlier associated with Kiara Advani in reports, before Maddock officially confirmed Padda as the lead. Her casting gives the film a completely different energy and also allows the studio to build a new franchise face following the success of its previous films.
The announcement teaser attached to Thamma also helped establish Shakti Shalini as something bigger than an isolated horror film. It positioned the character within Maddock’s increasingly interconnected universe, immediately prompting speculation about future crossovers and how the character could connect with other supernatural figures.
That connectivity is now one of the biggest attractions of the project. The release date discussion also comes at a time when the film’s production has been progressing steadily.
Reports from May indicated that the principal shooting had wrapped after intensive schedules, with the team expected to move into post-production and VFX work. More recent fan-community production updates have suggested that work on the background score, audio design and VFX is already underway, although these details should be treated as unofficial until confirmed by Maddock.
The important point is that the makers now have enough time to properly finish the film rather than rushing it for a pre-decided date.
For a horror comedy involving supernatural elements, visual effects, sound design and atmosphere can make a huge difference. A few extra weeks of post-production can sometimes be more valuable than an extra week of promotional campaigning.
This is where the proposed January strategy becomes particularly interesting. If Shakti Shalini arrives in the second week of January 2027, it could potentially benefit from the post-New Year period and then move into the Makar Sankranti/Pongal holiday zone.
More importantly, it would allow the makers to position the film as the first major horror-comedy event of the new year, rather than being one of several big releases competing for attention during Christmas.
That is arguably a better scenario than entering a Christmas battlefield against a giant like King. The franchise itself is now a major selling point.
What began with Stree has evolved into one of Bollywood’s most recognizable shared universes. Each successful entry has strengthened audience familiarity with the world, its supernatural rules and its recurring characters.
The upcoming Shakti Shalini therefore carries an advantage that many new films do not have: brand recognition. Simply, connecting another character to the existing universe will not be enough. Shakti Shalini needs its own identity, memorable characters, strong comedy and genuinely effective horror. If the makers manage that balance, the film could become another important piece of the franchise rather than just another spin-off.
The challenge is completely different this time. She is not stepping into a conventional romantic drama. She is leading a supernatural entertainer inside an established cinematic universe.
