Awarapan 2 jumps to around ₹33 crore on Day 2, while Batwara 1947 scores ₹13.50 crore, making the Emraan Hashmi and Sunny Deol clash even more interesting.
The Independence Day holiday has completely changed the box-office picture for both Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947. After opening on August 14, the two films witnessed substantial growth on Saturday, but Emraan Hashmi’s action-romance sequel has maintained a clear lead over Sunny Deol’s Partition drama.
The interesting part is that both films benefited from the national holiday, but the scale of growth was very different. Awarapan 2 has delivered a huge second-day jump and is now comfortably ahead in the race, while Batwara 1947 has also shown encouraging growth after a comparatively modest opening.
According to KBP REVIEW latest trade estimates, Awarapan 2 collected approximately ₹33 crore net in India on Day 2, taking its two-day domestic total to around ₹55 crore. Batwara 1947, meanwhile, added ₹13.50 crore net on Saturday, taking its India net total to ₹19.25 crore after two days.
Emraan Hashmi’s Comeback Gets Bigger Awarapan 2 has turned out to be the clear winner of the opening two-day box-office battle. The film opened at around ₹22 crore net on Friday, already giving Emraan Hashmi the biggest solo opening of his career. The second day then brought an impressive jump, with the film reaching the ₹33 crore mark.
Awarapan 2 sold approximately 1.80 lakh tickets between 6 AM and 2 PM on Saturday, compared with around 1 lakh in the same window on Friday. The film also crossed the one-lakh-ticket mark between 11 AM and noon, followed by more than 40,000 ticket sales in the next hour.
The national multiplex chains also showed strong demand. PVR, INOX and Cinepolis together had reportedly sold around 1.57 lakh tickets in advance for Day 2, generating approximately ₹6.1 crore gross across the three chains at that stage of tracking.
This is where the Awarapan 2 story becomes particularly interesting. The original 2007 film was not a major theatrical success when it first released, but its music, emotional storytelling and Emraan Hashmi’s performance gradually turned it into a cult favourite. The sequel has now managed to convert that long-term nostalgia into actual theatrical footfalls.
In fact, the sequel surpassed the original film’s entire worldwide lifetime collection within its opening day itself.
₹55 Crore In Two Days: A Huge Turnaround For Emraan – A two day India net of approximately ₹55 crore represents a remarkable turnaround for Emraan Hashmi, particularly because Awarapan 2 is built around a character and franchise that were not initially box-office giants.
The Shivam Pandit nostalgia, recreated music, action-romance positioning and Emraan’s return to one of his most loved characters have all played a role.
The recreated versions of Tera Mera Rishta and Toh Phir Aao have also brought the musical identity of the original back into the conversation. Singer Subodhh Sharma has lent his voice to the recreated tracks, helping the sequel reconnect with the soundtrack that made the original particularly memorable.
There is also an interesting development for the franchise itself. During a recent theatre visit, Emraan reportedly teased the possibility of Awarapan 3, telling fans that he hoped the third instalment could arrive soon. There is no official confirmation yet, but considering the current box-office response, the possibility has naturally become a bigger talking point.
Batwara 1947 Day 2: Sunny Deol’s Film Gets The Holiday Push – The Sunny Deol-led period drama opened at approximately ₹5.75 crore net on Day 1. On Saturday, however, the film witnessed a dramatic 134.8% jump, collecting around ₹13.50 crore net across 8,071 shows. That takes the film to approximately ₹19.25 crore net in India after two days.
The worldwide numbers have also started moving in the right direction. Batwara 1947 collected around ₹2 crore overseas on Day 2, taking its two-day worldwide gross to approximately ₹26.41 crore.
Its overseas total currently stands at around ₹3.50 crore. The jump is important because the film is targeting a completely different audience from Awarapan 2. While Emraan’s film is driven largely by nostalgia, music and action-romance, Batwara 1947 is a historical period drama rooted in the emotional trauma of Partition.
Rajkumar Santoshi directs the film, while Aamir Khan Productions produces it. The cast brings together Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal and others.
The story revolves around the Partition and follows a Muslim refugee family that moves into a deserted haveli in Lahore, only to discover that its elderly Hindu owner is still living there. The film is based on Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya Nai.
The film has also generated strong reactions for its performances. Early reviews have particularly highlighted Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi and the emotional treatment of the material.
Interestingly, Batwara 1947 has received an A certificate, despite being a historical drama, and reportedly runs for around 2 hours, 25 minutes and 34 seconds. The film was cleared without cuts, making its certification another notable aspect of its theatrical release.
Awarapan 2 vs Batwara 1947: The Gap Is Huge, After two days, the difference between the two films is already substantial — Awarapan 2 stands at approximately ₹55 crore net, while Batwara 1947 is at ₹19.25 crore net.
