Awarapan 2 has completed its theatrical run on a strong note, with Emraan Hashmi’s comeback film closing its India box-office journey at around ₹150.30 crore net. The sequel emerged as the biggest surprise successes of 2026 after opening with strong audience interest and maintaining its momentum well beyond the first weekend.
Nitin Kakkar directed the film, which arrived in cinemas on August 14 and brought Emraan Hashmi back as Shivam Pandit nearly two decades after the original Awarapan. The 2007 film failed commercially during its initial theatrical run, but audiences gradually turned it into a cult favourite. The sequel successfully converted that nostalgia into a major theatrical result.
Awarapan 2 Crosses ₹150 Crore in India
According to the KBP REVIEW figures, Awarapan 2 finished with approximately ₹150.30 crore net in India. The film collected ₹113.50 crore during its first week, added ₹30.75 crore in its second week and earned another ₹5.50 crore during its third week before continuing with smaller collections in the later stages of its run.
The film immediately established its commercial potential with its opening. It collected ₹22 crore on Day 1, jumped to ₹33.75 crore on Saturday and earned ₹26 crore on Sunday. Those numbers gave the film an opening weekend of more than ₹81 crore net.
The momentum continued through the weekdays. The film earned ₹9.25 crore on Monday and ₹9.75 crore on Tuesday, pushing its India net collection beyond the ₹100 crore mark within just five days.
That early run proved crucial because the film faced stronger competition later in its theatrical journey. Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups arrived on August 26 and put additional pressure on Awarapan 2 for screens and daily earnings. However, the Emraan Hashmi starrer had already built a substantial lead by that point.
Emraan Hashmi Scores His Biggest Solo Theatrical Success
The ₹150 crore milestone represents a major career achievement for Emraan Hashmi. Awarapan 2 became his first solo film to cross the ₹100 crore mark in India, giving the actor a significant box-office milestone.
The sequel also surpassed the lifetime business of the original Awarapan almost immediately. The first film collected only around ₹7.75 crore net during its original theatrical run, but its music, emotional storyline and Hashmi’s performance gradually helped it develop a dedicated fan base.
That history created considerable curiosity around the sequel, but the final result went far beyond simple franchise nostalgia.
The film also benefited from a strong initial audience response and a favourable release window. Its Independence Day weekend gave it a major boost, while limited competition during the first phase of its theatrical run allowed the film to build substantial momentum.

A Strong Opening Changed the Film’s Box Office Trajectory
The opening weekend played a crucial role in Awarapan 2’s theatrical journey. The film collected approximately ₹81.75 crore net during its first three days and established a strong foundation for the rest of its run.
It crossed ₹100 crore net in India on Day 5. By Day 6, the film had collected around ₹107.50 crore net domestically and crossed the ₹150 crore mark worldwide.
The film’s performance also demonstrated that Emraan Hashmi still possesses substantial theatrical pull when strong material meets franchise nostalgia. The actor has explored several different kinds of roles throughout his recent career, but Awarapan 2 gave him a commercial vehicle built around a character audiences already remembered.
Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Puran Gabbi, Aniruddh Rawal and Suvinder Vicky also played important roles, giving the sequel a broader ensemble around Hashmi’s central character.
Awarapan 2 Performs Despite the Toxic Competition
The second week became a crucial test for the film. After collecting ₹113.50 crore during its first seven days, Awarapan 2 added another ₹30.75 crore in its second week.
The film remained in the conversation even after its initial Independence Day advantage disappeared. Its second weekend produced useful numbers, including ₹5.75 crore on the second Friday, ₹8.25 crore on Saturday and ₹8.75 crore on Sunday.
Its worldwide performance also remained strong. The film’s global gross at approximately ₹212.70 crore, including around ₹179.15 crore from India gross and ₹33.55 crore from overseas markets.
Awarapan 2 Gives Emraan Hashmi Momentum for His Next Films
The success has also placed Emraan Hashmi in an interesting theatrical position heading into the final months of 2026. His next major release is Gunmaaster G9, an action entertainer directed by Aditya Datt.
The film marks another collaboration between Hashmi and Datt, who previously worked together on Aashiq Banaya Aapne and Dil Diya Hai. Their new project takes them into a very different territory, with hardcore action replacing the romantic drama space associated with their earlier collaborations.
The gap between Awarapan 2 and Gunmaaster G9 will therefore remain relatively short. The success of Awarapan 2 could give the upcoming action film additional visibility, particularly because audiences will now watch closely to see whether Hashmi can maintain this momentum.
