EXCLUSIVE: Dragon Adds Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor? Jr NTR and Prashanth Neel’s Magnum Opus Gets Two More Bollywood Stars

Jr NTR and Prashanth Neel’s Dragon already boasts an impressive ensemble and a fresh casting has now added two more major Bollywood names to the conversation.

According to KBP REVIEW reports, Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor are set to play important characters in the upcoming pan Indian action spectacle adding another layer of star power to a project that has already generated significant buzz across industries.

The makers have not officially confirmed the casting development yet, so audiences should treat the reports as unconfirmed information. The exact nature of Alia and Shahid’s reported roles also remains under wraps.

However, if the reports eventually materialise, Dragon will bring Jr NTR together with two of Hindi cinema’s most versatile performers, making Prashanth Neel’s ambitious project even bigger.

The makers officially titled the film Dragon in May 2026, replacing its earlier working title NTRNeel. They unveiled the title alongside the first glimpse, which introduced Jr NTR in an intense and ruthless avatar.

Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor Reportedly Join Dragon

According to reports doing the rounds, the makers have approached or brought Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor on board for important roles in Dragon. Multiple entertainment outlets reported the development earlier this year with speculation suggesting that Shahid could play a significant antagonist related character while Alia could appear in another key role.

The official project information available at present lists Jr NTR, Rukmini Vasanth, Anil Kapoor and several other actors but it does not prominently confirm Alia or Shahid among the principal cast.

Jr NTR and Prashanth Neel Are Building a Massive WorldAt the centre of Dragon stands the collaboration between Jr NTR and Prashanth Neel, a combination that has generated anticipation since the project’s announcement.

Neel previously directed the KGF franchise and Salaar, establishing a reputation for creating heavily stylised action worlds filled with powerful characters and intense conflicts. His collaboration with Jr NTR immediately suggested that the filmmaker planned another large scale spectacle.

The first glimpse finally offered audiences a look at the world Neel has been developing. Jr NTR appears as Luger, an extremely dangerous figure connected to the Afghan Trading Company. The story reportedly unfolds against the backdrop of a global opium conflict involving rival criminal and trading networks.

Luger as a ruthless character operating in a 1960s setting where the legacy of the global drug trade continues even after the British departure from India.

Jr NTR’s Luger Is Unlike His Recent Characters

The first glimpse has already created significant curiosity around Jr NTR’s transformation. Instead of presenting him as a straight forward heroic protagonist, Neel appears to be exploring a much darker and more morally complicated character.

Luger reportedly serves as the assassin in chief of the Afghan Trading Company, placing Jr NTR’s character at the centre of the film’s violent world. The glimpse focuses heavily on violence, atmosphere and Luger’s intimidating presence without revealing the complete narrative.

Interestingly, Neel has also indicated that the film’s emotional core does not appear fully in the first glimpse. The director described the footage primarily as an introduction to the setting while also hinting at a patriotic dimension within the story.

Dragon Already Has a Powerful Supporting Cast

Even before the latest Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor reports surfaced, Dragon had assembled a sizeable cast.

Anil Kapoor officially joined the film and plays Raghuveer Rathod, while Malayalam actor Biju Menon portrays Jeleel Rahman. Ashutosh Rana, Sidhant Gupta, Anshuman Pushkar, Rajeev Kanakala, Khushbu Sundar, Guru Somasundaram and Bimal Oberoi are also associated with the project. Rukmini Vasanth plays the female lead.

The ensemble suggests that Neel is building the narrative around more than a simple hero versus villain conflict. The story appears to involve multiple factions and characters operating within the same dangerous world.

Dragon’s First Glimpse Has Already Raised Expectations

The makers released the official glimpse around Jr NTR’s birthday in May and the footage immediately became one of the biggest talking points surrounding the project.

The glimpse showcased a gritty world, intense action and a visually aggressive presentation. The strong enthusiasm from viewers while also pointing out that some sections of the online audience felt Neel’s visual approach resembled elements from his earlier films. That debate will likely continue because Dragon carries the expectations created by KGF and Salaar.

However, the glimpse also showed that Neel wants to expand his familiar action style into a period setting involving international locations, narcotics and multiple centres of power.

Dragon Release Date and Technical Team

The makers have currently scheduled Dragon for a June 11, 2027 theatrical release. The film under the action and crime genres and identifies Mythri Movie Makers, NTR Arts and T-Series as the associated production banners.

Prashanth Neel directs the film, while Bhuvan Gowda handles cinematography and Ravi Basrur composes the music. Ujwal Kulkarni serves as the editor, while Chethan Dsouza handles action choreography.
