Mirzapur: The Movie Box Office Collection Day 1: Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal Starrer Opens Strong With ₹29 Crore Gross, Among 2026’s Biggest Openers

Mirzapur: The Movie has made a strong start at the Indian box office. The big-screen adaptation of the popular Mirzapur franchise opened in cinemas on September 4 and reportedly collected around ₹24.75 crore net in India, translating into approximately ₹29.70 crore gross on Day 1.

The opening marks a major theatrical debut for the franchise, which previously built a massive following through streaming.

Gurmmeet Singh has directed the film, which brings several familiar faces from the series to the big screen. Pankaj Tripathi returns as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal reprises Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu returns as Munna Tripathi. Ravi Kishan, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Rasika Dugal, Abhishek Banerjee and several other actors also feature in the film.

With a reported ₹24.75 crore net opening, Mirzapur: The Movie has entered the conversation around the biggest Hindi openers of 2026. Its reported gross of nearly ₹30 crore further highlights the scale of its theatrical debut.

Mirzapur: The Movie Day 1 Box Office Collection

According to the KBP REVIEW reports, estimates, Mirzapur: The Movie earned approximately ₹24.75 crore net across India on its first day, while the film’s India gross stands at around ₹29.70 crore.

The opening becomes particularly notable because the film has taken a successful OTT property and brought it into cinemas. The Mirzapur series already has an established audience, but a theatrical release requires viewers to leave home and purchase cinema tickets to experience a new chapter.

Strong Occupancy Across Thousands of Shows

The film supported its theatrical debut with a wide release and strong audience interest throughout the day. The latest estimates put its overall occupancy at around 42.81% across 11,135 shows.

Morning shows reportedly started at approximately 25% occupancy before the film picked up momentum as the day progressed. Night shows reached an estimated 62% occupancy, indicating that the film attracted stronger demand during the evening and late-night periods.

That upward movement throughout the day becomes significant because the film carries an A certificate, which naturally restricts its potential audience to adults.

The film also carries a substantial runtime of approximately 197 minutes, or 3 hours and 17 minutes. The official certification records confirm the A certificate and list the certified length at 197.19 minutes.

Mirzapur Enters 2026’s Top Opening-Day Conversation

At around ₹24.75 crore net, Mirzapur: The Movie has became the year’s stronger Hindi openings. The film has reportedly moved ahead of Awarapan 2, which opened at around ₹22 crore according to the figures currently being tracked for 2026.

The next major benchmark stands around the ₹30 crore opening associated with Border 2. Mirzapur: The Movie has therefore come close to that mark rather than comfortably surpassing it.

The wider 2026 box-office landscape has already witnessed several major theatrical performers. Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Border 2 have emerged among the year’s biggest successes, while films such as Awarapan 2 have shown how strong audience word of mouth can push a movie beyond its initial expectations.

Against that backdrop, Mirzapur: The Movie opening near the ₹25 crore net mark represents a significant result for a franchise that originated on OTT.

The A Certificate Did Not Stop the Franchise From Making an Impact

Before release, the CBFC certification became one of the major talking points around the film. The Mirzapur movie received an A certificate, and the certification process required the makers to modify intimate scenes and certain dialogues.

Reports stated that the makers removed approximately 35 seconds of intimate material. The certification process also muted cuss words at four places and modified abusive language at six others.

Despite those changes, the film has retained the gritty crime-world identity that audiences associate with the Mirzapur franchise.

The official CBFC synopsis describes a battle for the throne of Mirzapur, with old enemies returning and new threats emerging around the city’s violent underworld.

Can Mirzapur: The Movie Sustain the Momentum?

The biggest question now revolves around whether Mirzapur: The Movie can maintain its opening-day momentum throughout the first weekend.

Friday’s number has given the film a strong foundation, but Saturday and Sunday will reveal whether the theatrical adaptation has successfully connected with audiences beyond its established fanbase. The franchise already enjoys enormous recognition, and the opening indicates that its audience was willing to pay cinema-ticket prices for a new chapter.

Strong weekend growth could put the film in an even stronger position and help it emerge as one of 2026’s notable Hindi successes. At the same time, the film’s long runtime and A certificate limit its theatrical audience compared with a family-oriented commercial release.

The movie will therefore depend heavily on repeat viewership, word of mouth and the strength of its core fanbase during the weekend.

For now, the opening looks encouraging. With an estimated ₹24.75 crore India net and nearly ₹30 crore India gross on Day 1, Mirzapur: The Movie has successfully made the difficult transition from a hugely popular streaming franchise to the theatrical space.
